Thanks for your feedback and comment Scott. I disagree with the idea of creating pressure. Instead, I recommend balancing goal achievement, date, and budget based on their impact on product success. I discuss this approach in more detail in my book Strategize. Hope this makes sense!

Creating a focussed goal is a great way to help filter down a large product backlog. Adding some time pressure can be a great way to help whittle down options too – when the deadline and team are fixed, the scope has to adjust.
